Useful Info > Hunt History
The Hunt dates from 1869 before which
the North and South Herefordshire were a unified Hunt.
The most notable Mastership was that of
Mrs. Simmons, 1931-51 and again from 1956-61. However, Mr. and Mrs.
Gordon Jones's eleven seasons, 1983-94, proved to be a very successful
period. Mal Williams took over as Master and huntsman at the start of
the season 2001/02. Mal came to the South Herefordshire from the
Carmarthenshire where he hunted hounds for five seasons.
An enormous amount of work has been put
into the kennels and country during the summer of 2002 in order to
improve conditions for both hounds and humans! We are indebted to the
farming community for their cooperation, especially to those who have
permitted the hunt to cross their ground for the first time in many
seasons.
Masters, hunt staff and members of the
field who have been awarded their hunt buttons wear a dark green velvet
collar on their coats. Gentlemen may wear this collar on their evening
tails (with white silk facings if they are members of the Hereford Hunt
Club).
